Elise's Photos

Posted by Picasa

Well, we don’t have any new photos of our own to share at the moment, so I raided the collection of photos that Elise took while she was here in Thessaloniki.

The top three photos are all from our outing one afternoon (after my Greek class) to Ano Poli, or the Upper City. This is the area up on the hill, furthest away from the sea. Much of the old city walls still remain along this border, as well as the northeast tower. This is also the area in which St. Paul preached in the synagogue for three Sabbaths (Acts 17:1-9).

The top photo is Elise standing on a section of the northern city walls.

The second photo is of the tower, which is not open to the public. I’m giving Pelagia a leg-up in this photo so that she can look inside the window.

The third photo is from an outdoor café, perched on top of the hill with a view of the city and the sea. I’m drinking some kind of fancy espresso.

The bottom photo was taken at Annunciation Monastery in Ormylia. See here for the blog entry.

In other news, our two-week Pascha vacation just started and, in addition to recovering from Greek classes, Pelagia and I are working on putting our yard in decent order. Eventually (I hope), I’ll post some before & after photos. We’re hoping to have a few flowers, vegetables, and herbs, with the important caveat that there be little or no cost involved. Of course, this is made even more difficult by the fact that we have no practically no tools and no car to haul things like soil, etc. But that’s Greece!

On Wednesday, we’re heading off to Patmos with some friends to celebrate Pascha. Look for lots of photos here during Bright Week!
