My brother-in-law, Thomas, and his oldest daughter, Anastasia, arrived in Thessaloniki around 1:00 PM Monday, after a very long trip from the West Coast of the US. After a long rest, we headed out this morning (Tuesday) to see some of Thessaloniki.
We visited the churches of St. Demetrios, Prophet Elias (see above), Panagia Ahiropoiitou, Agia Sophia, and St. Gregory Palamas, venerating the relics of St. Demetrios, St. Gregory Palamas, and many of the other Thessaloniki saints who surround us here.
We took a break to have a coffee down on the water, stopped in a church bookstore, and generally saw quite a bit.
On the way back home, we stopped for lunch at the best gyro place in Thessaloniki (for those in the know), Prassas, and had their famous enormous gyros. Above you can see Thomas and Ana watching as the gyro spin and cook.
